Ozalis

Ozalis Harmonica Ensemble was founded in May, 2004 with 3 members which then increased to 4 in December, 2005. All 4 members of Ozalis have their role to play, including Vincent as the team leader, Keith in-charge of music, Vinz dealing with performances and Mavis managing the team. They've been to many countries, including Japan, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore and German to participate in various international competitions. With their youthful and energetic performances, they represent a new generation of harmonica. In just a few years after it's founded, Ozalis has won itself many awards as well as compliments from audiences.


Vincent Tan Boon Hean

Born in 1986, he started learning harmonica in SMK Yu Hua Kajang under Teacher Chan Kin Yip in year 1999. With the assistance of teacher and seniors, he managed to learn a few types of harmonica, including chromatic harmonica, chord and double bass harmonica in a short period of time. He often plays the role of counselor by solving problems that his juniors and students face. He also helps them to improve their much needed skills and techniques for their competitions.

Aside from giving classes, he's an active participant in many local and international harmonica competitions. Some of his past achievements include:

Mavis Yap Mei Wei

Born in 1988, she started learning harmonica in SMK Yu Hua Kajang under Teacher Chan Kin Yip in year 2001. She started with chromatic harmonica and later mastered the world's biggest harmonica - the double bass harmonica in just a few months after being taught by Teacher Chan.

Even now, she diligently practices both her chromatic and double bass skills assisted by her seniors. It started as a hobby for her, but it unexpectedly became her career. Now, she aims to train and cultivate more harmonica talents, just like what her teacher did.

As an active member of Ozalis, she participates in various harmonica competitions along with her team. Some of her achievements include:

Keith Tan Choon Khai

Born in 1989, Keith comes from a family of musicians. At a young age of 6, he started learning piano. When he was 15 years old, he came into contact with harmonica thanks to the influence of his brother, Tan Choon Xiang. After just a month, in 2004, he took the initiative to participate in the Malaysia-China Harmonica Festival and earned a merit award in the 10 Holes Blues Harp Solo Category. Encouraged by his seniors, he officially became a member of the Harmonica Club in SMK Yu Hua Kajang.

In just a few years, he's recorded as Malaysia's youngest international harmonica double winners and the youngest Malaysia Asia Pacific Harmonica Triple Crown. Today, he is proficient in a variety of instruments including piano, drums, saxophone and so on.

Vinz Low Chew Nie

Born in 1988, she started learning harmonica in SMK Yu Hua Kajang under Teacher Chan Kin Yip in year 2001. With the guidance of teacher and seniors, she quickly mastered the chromatic harmonica. Although she has been learning harmonica for a long time, she still sharpens her harmonica skills and knowledge from time to time.
